About this policy

This page sets out the terms for using Zana World (zanaworld.app), how we collect and use personal information, the emails we send and the limits of our responsibility. By creating an account, claiming or listing a business, posting an advert or otherwise using Zana World, you agree to this policy.

If you do not agree, please do not use Zana World.

02

What Zana World is

Zana World is an online directory of businesses and service providers across Africa. We help people find businesses and contact them directly by phone, WhatsApp, email or website.

We are not a party to any agreement between you and a business. We do not sell the products or services listed, employ the businesses, handle payments between you and a business, or supervise the work they do.

03

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Zana World is a directory only. We do not provide, endorse or guarantee the products or services of any business listed, and we are not liable for any agreement, payment, transaction, communication, meeting or other interaction between you and a business.

  • Listing details come from public sources and from business owners. We work to keep them accurate, but we cannot guarantee that any listing is complete, current or correct.
  • A verified badge means we have confirmed that the person managing the listing is connected to the business. It is not a recommendation or a guarantee of quality.
  • Ratings and reviews reflect the opinions of the people who left them, not of Zana World.
  • Always check a business's identity, prices and terms before you pay, share personal details or meet in person. Any dispute is between you and the business.
  • Zana World is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors.
  • To the fullest extent the law allows, Zana World and its team are not liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, arising from your use of the site or from your dealings with any business found through it.

Nothing in this policy limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.

04

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account.
  • Give accurate information and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Tell us at hello@zanaworld.app if you think someone else has accessed your account.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break this policy, misuse the site or put other people at risk.
  • You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing hello@zanaworld.app.

05

Business listings

Many listings are created from publicly available open data, including OpenStreetMap and Overture Maps, before the owner joins. Owners can claim a listing for free to update and manage it.

  • Only claim or manage a business you own or are authorised to represent.
  • Keep your details accurate. Do not list fake businesses, misleading information or services that are illegal where you operate.
  • You are solely responsible for the products and services you offer and for how you deal with customers.
  • We review new listings and claims and may edit, refuse or remove any listing.
  • If you want a listing about your business corrected or removed, contact us through the contact page or at hello@zanaworld.app.

06

Adverts

  • Adverts are reviewed before they appear and may be refused or removed at our discretion.
  • Adverts must be truthful and lawful, and you must have the right to use any text and images you upload.
  • Zana World does not handle payments for the products or offers in adverts. Agree on price and delivery directly with the advertiser.

07

Acceptable use

When using Zana World you must not:

  • post anything fraudulent, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit or otherwise unlawful;
  • impersonate another person or business;
  • collect data from the site in bulk, or use bots or scrapers, without our written permission;
  • send spam or unsolicited messages to businesses found through the site;
  • attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems.

08

Marketing emails

When you create an account, you agree that Zana World will send you marketing emails. You can unsubscribe at any time.

  • Marketing emails may include product news, new features, tips for getting found by customers, offers and information about our partners' products and services relevant to you.
  • Every marketing email includes a link to unsubscribe. You can also email hello@zanaworld.app and we will stop them.
  • Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop service emails we need to send, such as email verification, password resets, claim and advert decisions, and important changes to this policy.
  • We may also email businesses whose contact details appear in public data, to invite them to claim their free listing. These emails include an unsubscribe link, and we do not send more than two to the same address.
  • We never sell your email address.

09

Privacy: what we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text), and optionally your country and what brings you to Zana.
  • Business details you submit or that come from public data: business name, category, phone, WhatsApp, email, website, address and location.
  • Contact requests: when you call or message a business through the directory, we ask for your email so we can ask you later how it went.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, approximate location (country and city from your connection), browser type and the site that referred you. We use this to understand how Zana World is used.
  • Messages you send us, for example through the contact page.

10

Privacy: how we use and share it

  • To run Zana World: show listings, manage accounts, review claims and adverts, and keep the site secure.
  • To send service emails and, as described above, marketing emails.
  • To improve the site and understand which features people use.
  • To meet legal obligations and to protect our users and the site.

We share data only with service providers that help us run Zana World, such as hosting (Vercel), our database (Neon), email (Google Workspace), image storage (Cloudinary), AI writing assistance (Anthropic) and payment providers where payments apply. They may process data outside your country. We may also disclose data when the law requires it. We do not sell personal data.

11

Privacy: your choices and rights

  • Access, correct or delete your personal data, or ask us to stop using it, by emailing hello@zanaworld.app.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
  • Ask us to correct or remove a listing about your business.

We keep account data while your account is open and delete it when you ask, unless we need to keep some of it to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. We protect data with industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords, but no online service can be completely secure.

We use cookies and your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember choices such as your language. Zana World is not intended for children under 18.

12

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Zana World grows. When we make important changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you by email. Continuing to use Zana World after a change means you accept the updated policy.
